Music has the right to robots: "Designed in collaboration with interactive designer Jonathan Chomko, the COLORS News Machine turns your tweets into headlines, but only after they've been passed through all the media filters and technological platforms that disseminate and distort the news today."


"A megaphone will read your tweet out loud. Its tape recorder listens, converting what it hears into text so that the television can show it onscreen. A camera watching the television converts what it sees into a signal to the radio antenna, which broadcasts the tweet. And the waiting microphone interprets this radio address as text again for printing."

a kind of vortex or portal through which I could actually show this: Wildcat, a collaboration between filmmaker Kahlil Joseph and prolific musician Flying Lotus, explores the "little-known African-American rodeo subculture," in Grayson, Oklahoma.

The two previously collaborated on the Sundance selected short Until the Quiet Comes. His latest music video Tiny Tortures stars Elijah Wood.

"The Lower Depths": Before the National Enquirer, TMZ, Globe, The Star and other gossip tabloids, there was the National Police Gazette. Founded in 1845, it originally covered "highwaymen and suchlike malefactors, the thought being that the public would get on to the evil-doers and fix their wagons." Thirty years later a new owner transformed 'the oldest weekly in America' into a full-on tabloid covering "murders, Wild West outlaws, and sport... well known for its engravings and photographs of scantily clad strippers, burlesque dancers, and prostitutes, often skirting on the edge of what [was] legally considered obscenity." Some even consider it "America's first popular men's magazine." The Gazette shut down in 1977, but has now been resurrected.

#one of the things that cuts me to the quick  #is how easily-dismissed parallels between God and sexuality are  #because there’s this strange nebulous area in the human consciousness  #which we have demarcated for things that feel like they arise from beyond us  #yet have their most profound impact within us  #and sexuality and God both fall within that area  #beyond and yet within  #it isn’t a choice we’ve made consciously; it’s arisen from without  #yet its most lasting and deepest effects are within  #and so when Hildegard or Catherine write about God in (sometimes explicitly) sexual terms they get written off as repressed  #when really it makes sense that they would use the same language because it feels like the same phenomenon (notbecauseofvictories)
